Ed Sandoval

One of the most renowned and popular contemporary artists in northern New Mexico, Ed Sandoval is often seen riding his Arabian horse, El Patron, to breakfast. The locals just smile, because it is who Ed Sandoval is, a warm, accessible man with a heart as big as the landscapes that he paints.

Born in Nambe, New Mexico, Ed grew up and lived in various Northern New Mexico communities before finally settling in Taos. His roots in New Mexico are as true and deep as the colors on his canvasses that glow and pulse with life. Each painting evolves with a shimmering red undercoat that establishes the energy for what is to come. His subject matter often portrays the past life and customs that are the grounding force of the Southwest.

The old figures that inhabit his paintings flow from Ed's heart. They are of the rich and unique heritage that is the soul of the striking mountains, sweeping vistas and intimate valleys of El Norte. They are the common people, caught in a moment, walking down a path, returning home, or entering a humble adobe church. They are of the past, the present and the future.

"I seem to find inspiration in the old life of New Mexico. The expression of my work follows the road of rhythmical expressionism, with a bold and energetic style. I'm not concerned with painting realism. What's important to me is the expression, mood and movement in my paintings."

Welcome to the vibrant world of Ed Sandoval.
